05:04 pm - разблюто
Today's word doesn't exist, but I thought I would post it because this myth amuses me (kind of like the "Russians have no word for freedom" myth). In some English publications, Russians are said to have the word "razbliuto", which means something along the lines of "a feeling a person has for someone he or she once loved but no longer feels the same way about."

LanguageHat has an interesting post where he tries to track down the origins of this myth.

Once I've met an university professor in the U.S. who greeted me with a very funny phonetical construction which sounded more or less like a Slavic phrase, though it made no sense in any Slavic language I've ever heard. I was so surprised that I could not prevent myself from laughing, which seemingly embarrassed the guy (he was in his 60s.) Later we cleared it up. He was absolutely sure that it was a phrase in Russian, because when he was young, there was a TV ad representing a Russian saying that phrase in a very serious tone. So I explained that it wasn't actually a Russian phrase (or not a phrase at all,) and we made a good laugh out of it. The only problem is that I cannot remember that "fake Russian" now, I only remember that it sounds really weird :)

As for the other myth you mention, Russians do have at least two words for freedom (свобода and воля.) I'm sure you know that, it's just my педантизм (pedantry.) :))))

No, I meant "разблюто". I know that it's not a real Russian word; that's what this post (which is very old) is about.
